Many friends who are visiting Tibet for the first time often ask how many days is appropriate for a trip to Tibet. Some of you may not have much vacation time in a year and it is difficult to take time off, so it is indeed not easy to make a trip to Tibet. In this regard, I have compiled a suggestion on the number of days to visit Tibet for your reference.

The most classic Tibet tour itinerary in 2024 is a 9-day trip.
(i.e., the Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Shigatse-Mount Everest-Namtso loop)
For detailed itinerary information, please see [link/reference]. Lhasa-Shigatse-Mount Everest-Namtso 9-day tour
This is the most classic route in Tibet, and it's the choice of most first-time visitors. It takes you to the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, and the famous Barkhor Street, as well as to the two holy lakes of Tibet, Yamdrok Lake and Namtso Lake. You can also admire the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, and at night, you can look up at the starry sky.

2. If you feel that 9 days is too long and it is difficult to apply for that much vacation time, you can consider 8 days (Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Shigatse-Mount Everest).

This itinerary is one day shorter than the nine-day itinerary, as Namtso Lake is over 500 kilometers away and takes about 9 hours round trip, making the journey quite long. Although Namtso Lake is one of the three holy lakes of Tibet, those who do not have enough time can skip it.

3. For those who have ample time and wish to explore Tibet more thoroughly.
You can choose 10 days (Nyingchi, Lhasa, Mount Everest, and Namtso Lake (10 days))
The 10-day itinerary adds Linzhi to the 9-day itinerary, mainly visiting Lulang Forest, Namcha Barwa Peak, and Basum Tso. The peach blossom festival in March and April is the most beautiful time to visit Linzhi, so most people choose to go in March or April.
Lhasa-Mount Everest-Mount Sacred Mountain and Lake Namtso-Lhasa 14-day tour and Lhasa - Mount Everest - Sacred Mountain and Lake Manasarovar (Kora) - Namtso Lake - Lhasa 16-day tour ▶ The tour will take you to Ngari, the farthest and most sacred place in Tibet. The main attractions include Peigu Lake, Shishapangma Peak, Manasarovar Lake, Mount Kailash, the Guge Kingdom, and the Zanda Earth Forest. The itinerary is the same for both the 14-day and 16-day tours, except that the 16-day tour includes a visit to Mount Kailash, while the 14-day tour does not.
Through this introduction, I believe you now have a general understanding of the routes in Tibet. Next, you can choose a suitable travel route based on your available time. I'm confident that no matter which route you choose, Tibet will not disappoint you.
