Practical Travel Information: Essential Reading Before Your Trip

While Rongbuk Monastery boasts stunning scenery, its high-altitude location and harsh environment necessitate thorough preparation before departure. Upon arrival at Everest Base Camp, accommodation is typically found at the Rongbuk Monastery guesthouse or in the tent area of Everest Base Camp. During the tourist season (April-October), a limited selection of food and drinks can be purchased in the tent area of Everest Base Camp, but prices will be approximately three times higher than in Lhasa; be prepared for this.

Climate and Equipment

Rongbuk Monastery experiences strong winds in the mornings and evenings, and temperatures can drop to -15 to -20 degrees Celsius from December to March. Please be sure to bring sufficient warm clothing (down jacket, windproof coat). Because the altitude exceeds 5000 meters, it is recommended to take altitude sickness medication in advance and move slowly to prevent altitude sickness.

Transportation

There are almost no rides or shuttle buses here.Charter a car or join a tour groupIt is the only feasible mode of transportation. Although the scenery along the way is beautiful, the journey from Shigatse city is long.

Actual accommodation situation

To be honest, the accommodations here are rather basic, so don't expect to stay in a hotel.

• Rongbuk Monastery GuesthouseThis is the closest sturdy building to Mount Everest. It usually consists of shared beds with limited sanitation and no private bathroom.
• Everest Base Camp Tent Area(April to October): The price per bed is approximately 100 RMB (varies depending on the season). There is a stove inside the tent, but it gets very cold after the fire goes out at midnight.
• Survival advice： It is strongly recommended that you bring your own high-quality sleeping bag (hygienic and warm) as well as enough dry food and a hot water bottle, as supplies are difficult to transport here, prices are high, and there are very few choices.
